Most readers in Australia will know that Summer also brings along Australia's natural disaster - the bushfire.
This morning Melbourne woke up to the thick blanket of smoke and haze that affected arrivals and departures at Melbourne Airport, and caused chaos for drivers along the Calder Freeway. This morning you could not see more than 100m beyond your windscreen if you were heading anywhere.
This fire is reminscent of the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 which ravaged Victoria and South Australia. And with tempartures tomorrow not expected to ease until late in the day, it won't help the firefighters from across the state, interstate and New Zealand who are battling the contain these fires.
This is Summer in the city. Australian-style.

I spent the whole 40 degree weekend at the shopping centre taking advantage of the free air-conditioning.
Between the hazelnut lattes, clothing and shoes that i purchased, this is going to be an expensive summer if i continue to be trapped within the cool confines of Westfield Shopping centre!!

i spent most of my weekend in the gym to cool off... that when i wasn't in my drunken stupor when you really don't care about the heat... or anything else for that matter.
